The birth of the BMW M Series started in the 1970s. The performance department of BMW had been engineering, designing, and manufacturing racing cars with success and felt there was room to expand into creating high-performance vehicles for the public.
The very first M model, the M1, was almost entirely a mid-range racecar with a focus on performance over comfort features for the driver. Although this met the needs of delivering a high-performance car to the public, BMW began to merge the BMW M series into a racecar combined with the best luxury features available. Thus, the ultimate in driveability and comfort was born and today the range spans 17 different models for you to choose from.
